MEET LEAH
Hi, I'm Leah.
I'm a mother, a grandmother, and the woman behind House of Ra.
For almost twenty years, caring for and supporting others has been a huge part of my life. I began working in a children's home before moving into fostering and later becoming a Family Group Conference Coordinator. Today, I work in domiciliary care.
For me, care was never simply a job. I have always believed that every one of us deserves appropriate care and support, particularly during the times when life becomes difficult.
MY OWN JOURNEY
Some stories begin long before we realise we're telling them.
My desire to support others also comes from my own experiences.
I grew up within a dysregulated childhood and have experienced childhood trauma, difficult relationships and alcohol addiction. Over the years, I faced those parts of my life, healed from much of what had happened and used what I had learned to better understand and support others facing their own challenges.
But my story didn't end with recovery.
In many ways, that was where another story was about to begin.
HOW HOUSE OF RA BEGAN
So I started asking questions.
When the world around us changed in 2020, I found myself wanting something better for my daughter and her little family.
Big questions.
I had no idea at the time where those questions would lead me.
What followed became a deeply personal journey filled with experiences, discoveries and moments I could never have predicted. I began turning those experiences into artwork and eventually realised that I wanted to tell the story properly.
That story became House of Ra.
And the first chapter became Viva La Resistance.

WHY I TELL MY STORY
I tell my story because somewhere, someone may need to read it.
House of Ra isn't about telling people what they should believe. It is about having the courage to share what I experienced and creating space for others who may have experienced things they cannot explain.
Strange and unusual experiences can leave people feeling frightened, isolated or afraid to speak about what happened.
I want House of Ra to be a place where people don't have to feel ashamed or alone for saying:
“This happened to me.”
A place where we can share our experiences, stand in our own truths and support one another with courage and compassion.
FROM A COMIC TO SOMETHING BIGGER
House of Ra began with one story and one comic.
But that was only the seed.
From that first comic grew House of Ra Publishing Studios — a home for comics, artwork, future collections and creative projects.
My hope is that House of Ra will continue growing beyond the stories themselves and develop into a supportive community: somewhere people can connect, create, share and help one another through challenging times in many different ways.
I don't know exactly how big that seed will grow.
But I know why it was planted.
Bringing darkness to light with courage and compassion.
